District Heights Police are investigating a shooting that involved an 8-year veteran on the force.

It happened Thursday evening on County Road.

Police say the officer opened fire to prevent the escape of a man arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

The suspect was shot in the back and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The officer is on administrative leave.
