DC Water inspects sewer lines to search for cause of recent flooding problems

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

It's still a mystery what is causing massive flooding problems in the Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park neighborhoods of D.C. The most recent flood came after a fast-moving storm Sunday night.

DC Water General Manager George Hawkins discussed the problem at a board of directors meeting on Thursday. Hawkins said the board agreed the flooding issue should be its top priority.

Looking Cameras are being used to search tunnels and pipes that are supposed to carry rain water and sewage away from the neighborhoods. Crews hope to find blockage in those lines, but so far nothing serious has been found.

DC Water is also looking at other short term solutions. It has considered adding new drainage along sidewalks and maybe distributing rain barrels to area homeowners.
