Gas prices break record this Labor Day Weekend

ATLANTA -

Labor Day Weekend travelers need to brace for the highest price for gas ever recorder during the holiday weekend.

According to gasbuddy.com, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.80. That is up $0.13 from a year ago. Last Labor Day, we were paying $3.67.

Here in Atlanta, the average cost for regular unleaded is about $3.93. That is up $0.13 from a year ago and the highest price ever recorded during the Labor Day Weekend.

Relief may be on the way as driver should see prices start to drop as refineries come back online in the Gulf of Mexico. Those platforms have been idle as Isaac approached and moved through. Energy companies say crews are returning to about 400 of the 600 off-shore platforms.

However, officials say 94-percent of the oil production remains shut down for now.
