PG officer shoots self in leg responding to rabid fox attack

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. -

A Prince George's County police officer is in the hospital after accidentally shooting himself.

Officers were called to the 13000 block of Clarion Road in Fort Washington after a woman was bitten by a rabid fox.

The animal charged the cops and one of them opened fire. He tripped on some stairs and shot himself in the leg.

The officer has serious, but non life-threatening injuries.

The fox was killed and the woman is being treated for rabies exposure.
