CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Schools are focusing on more nutritional lunches for students lately. Packing a healthy lunch and making a tasty snack that's good for your kids is essential.

Wellness expert and fitness chef Ashley Pettit joined Good Day Chicago with ideas on what you can make for the perfect lunch and a couple of healthy snacks.

She uses great energy foods, and shows that you don't need to sacrifice taste for nutrition.

Here are the recipes:

  • Banana Lollipop: Small banana on a skewer. Spread seed/nut butter over first half of banana and then roll it in granola.
  • Yogurt Smoothie: 1/2-Cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 Cup mixed berries, 2 tsp raw honey
  • Lettuce Cups: 2-3 smaller Romaine leaves adorned with 1 slice avocado, 2 slices shredded Applegate Farms turkey meat, and 1 tsp salsa
  • Cottage Cheese Bowl: 1/2-Cup Organic cottage cheese, 1/2 apple sliced, cinnamon, 2 tsp natural brown sugar
  • Fruit Quesadilla: small wheat tortilla, 1.5 TB Neufchatel cheese, 1 TB Nutella, 2 TB mixed berries, fold it over and briefly microwave.
