WASHINGTON, DC -
The DC Office of Tax and Revenue says it has released the lien on Barry Morewitz's home after a settlement was reached. Morewitz was listed at the top of a list of DC's most delinquent taxpayers. District officials said Morewitz owed more than $17.8 million dollars in back taxes and penalties.
OTR officials say they are unable to tell Fox 5 how the issue was resolved or how much money was paid to the District to settle the debt due to confidentiality rules.
DC seized the rights to Morewitz's home last October. OTR spokesperson, Natalie Wilson said Wednesday, "As it relates to the seizure of the home, the lien has been released."
A spokesperson for Councilmember Jack Evans, who chairs the Finance and Revenue committee, says Evans will try to determine how much money was paid to the District to reach this settlement.
Wilson says Morewitz is no longer DC's biggest delinquent taxpayer. OTR said it would remove Morewitz from their official's online list.
