WASHINGTON -
Summer vacation is just about over in the District. Thousands of kids will be heading back to school later this month.
In Ward 3, Councilmember Mary Cheh is touring each school campus before the kids return to make sure classrooms are in good shape. Cheh has been doing these tours for years and sees a lot of improvement.
"Every year, I must say things get better and better and better," said Cheh. "When I first started this six years ago, there were issues about whether books would be delivered."
Cheh admits that when she reports a problem she sees while on a tour, it usually is addressed quickly by city workers.
Cheh says overall enrollment in Ward 3 schools has increased in the years she has been on the council. But she points out a new issue that comes with more students. There isn't enough space at current Ward 3 schools. Cheh has been pushing for additional schools to be built in her ward.
