Fairfax County police are investigating a fiery head-on collision in Alexandria that has killed a man and injured a police officer.
Police say a car traveling westbound on Franconia Road, near Gum Street, collided with a marked police cruiser about 3 a.m. Monday. Authorities say the car burst into flames and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
The officer was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is a seven-year veteran of the department.
