A murder mystery in Maryland has left two little girls without a mother.

Shavon Phillips was last seen alive leaving her daughter's daycare in Northeast Washington last week. Her body was found in a Prince George's County creek two days later.

There are some clues investigators are clearly working with, but so far, there is no word of a possible suspect.

Phillips was last seen a week ago Monday in a dark-colored minivan with an unknown driver along the 400 block of 61st Street in Northeast D.C. She was taking her two-year-old daughter to daycare.

Sources say Phillips had $5,000 in cash on her and was supposed to go to Philadelphia.

"She was on her way to purchase a car and she never made it obviously," says Shayne Baum, a friend of Phillips. "She never made it. And this is sad because it could be me. It could be anybody."

Phillips was 22 years old, and according to friends, had just finished nursing school. They say she was about to start a job as a hotel housekeeper.

Phillips' body was found floating in a creek in Fort Washington last Wednesday night - two days after she disappeared. Sources say the remains were stuffed in a bag.

"For somebody to just leave her like she was trash, I don't understand," Baum says.

"She has kids and people that love her," says another friend, Carlette Shaw. "Why would they do that to her?"

The daycare center's owner says Phillips was last seen getting into the minivan. A copy of surveillance video shown to FOX 5 News at the center has been given to police investigators.

Prince George's Police are not speaking publicly about the case.

Phillips lived in an apartment building on Fitch Street in Southeast D.C. After she disappeared, her apartment was broken into and ransacked.

Friends say she had not expressed concern about anyone or anything.

In that surveillance video, you can see Phillips' daughter tugging at her. The center's owner says that was unusual behavior for the little girl. She wonders whether the child somehow sensed something was wrong. It would be the last time she would see her mother.

Her friends say Phillips also had a five-year-old daughter - living with the father in Virginia.
