WASHINGTON -

Dr. William Maisel, Deputy Director for the Center for Devices and Radiological Health at the Food and Drug Administration, faces four counts of soliciting prostitution and one count of disorderly conduct.

Howard County Police say he was arrested on July 13 in an undercover sting along the busy Route 1 corridor in Laurel. He was one of 10 suspects netted in the bust.

In a statement, FDA spokeswoman Erica Jefferson, said "This is a personal matter and unrelated to the work of the FDA or Dr. Maisel's work at the agency."

Maisel is due in court on September 20 for a preliminary hearing.
