WASHINGTON -
Pepco is asking its customers to conserve energy as high temperatures descend on the Washington area.
The utility announced that it is asking customers to conserve energy on Friday because of forecasted high temperatures. However, Pepco says the region's power supply is expected to be enough to meet the anticipated high demand. The utility says Friday will be a Peak Savings Day and customers enrolled in that program will have their air conditioning compressors cycled off for short periods between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The National Weather Service says highs are expected to be in the mid-90s on Friday.
Pepco, which serves Washington and suburban Maryland, has been criticized for reliability and delays in restoring power after severe storms.
