A Roanoke man faces charges in connection with a pipe bomb explosion in Blacksburg.

Blacksburg police say in a news release that 23-year-old Derick Gregory Wilson was charged Wednesday with the manufacture, possession, use of fire bombs or explosive materials.

Virginia State Police charged Wilson with possession of bomb-making materials. Sgt. Rob Carpentieri says investigators found the materials in a family member's home in Roanoke.

The improvised explosive device exploded early Wednesday near several vehicles parked behind an apartment complex in Blacksburg. No one was injured. One vehicle was damaged.

Carpentieri says the Blacksburg investigation led state police obtain a search warrant for the relative's home.

Carpentieri says Wilson is being held without bond in the Roanoke City Jail.

The investigation is continuing.
