Bucks County Resident Raymond Oslick is 86 years old. He's a World War II Veteran. Ten months ago his daughter Lori moved him to a Private Facility. That was the first time she filed for assistance from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
"I've never dealt with anything this frustrating before where you can't get anywhere, you can't get resolution, you can't get an answer," said Lori Oslick.
Lori filled out all the necessary paperwork in October of 2011. But every time she called about her father's pension aid and attendance care, she was told the paperwork was lost and she had to refile. So she did every month, over and over again. In March of 2012 she got the military affairs office in Doylestown to file on her behalf, but still no action.
"They owe us 17,900 dollars," said Lori.
According to Lori, her father is entitled to a little more than 1700 dollars a month. In April she contacted Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick's office for help. Still getting the run-around in July from the Department of Veterans Affairs she turned to Fox29.
So we reached out to Congressman Fitzpatrick and to the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington D.C.
Congressman Fitzpatrick says "13 months seems to be the average time for a Philly VA claim to be processed, that's 13 months too long."
He says other regional offices handle claims much faster than Philly. His office has received dozens of similar complaints.
"We are not going to rest until Raymond Oslick receives the disability award he's due," said Fitzpatrick.
Ashley Mclellan from the Department of Veterans Affairs released a statement to Fox29.
"The Department of Veterans Affairs is committed to ensuring veterans and their families receive the benefits they have earned. We are presently looking into the specifics of the Oslick claim and will be reaching out to the family."
"I was always told they take care of their vets and after this process I've been through I'm not sure they take care of vets anymore," said Lori Oslick.
