OWINGS, Md. -
Authorities say that three people have been found dead in what appears to be an apparent murder-suicide in Calvert County.
Police responded to a house in Owings, Md. Tuesday morning when the discovery was made. They say all the victims were found on the first floor.
Police say that it appears 32-year-old Frank Hayward killed his 31-year-old wife, Cindy, and their two-year-old child, Natalie. Afterwards, Hayward attempted to set his home on fire. Police say at that point, Hayward killed himself.
Their 12-year-old son, Frank, was rushed to the hospital with burns to the body and lacerations to his neck. He is reportedly in critical condition at Children's National Medical Center.
We're also told there was another adult inside the home who was able to escape.
Autopsies will be conducted to determine how each family member was killed.
The sheriff's office says several guns were found in the home.
According to sources, Hayward's house was in the process of being foreclosed on by the bank.
The investigation is ongoing.
