Long sections of black sand have been appearing along stretches of beach in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

According to the Rehoboth Weekend Update, the concentrated black sands are typically lag deposits of heavy minerals such as magnetite and ilmenite

Garnet, tourmaline and hornblende are other minerals commonly found in the dark sand mix.

The minerals pose no threat to beachcombers or the environment.
