Trees planted at former Paterno statue site

Posted: Updated:
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -

The spot where Joe Paterno's bronze likeness once stood is now occupied by freshly planted trees.

The Centre Daily Times ( http://bit.ly/OcF6sm ) reports the trees were planted outside Penn State's Beaver Stadium over the weekend. The weekend before, workers removed the 7-foot statue of the late coach in the wake of a child-sex abuse scandal that has engulfed the university.

Earlier in the month, an internal investigation found Paterno colluded with other high-ranking officials to cover up abuse allegations against his former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.

Sandusky is awaiting sentencing on charges he sexually abused 10 boys, some at Penn State football team facilities.

The university hasn't said what it plans to do with the statue.
