Police in Maryland and Pennsylvania are investigating store robberies in both states where a suspect wields an Army-style assault rifle.
Maryland State Police troopers were called to a 7-Eleven store in the 11900 block of Main Street in Libertytown, Md. on July 5 just after 10:30 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery.
Police say a man entered the store with a rifle and fired a shot inside the store after demanding money from the clerk. After leaving with an undetermined amount of money, the gunman confronted two customers in the parking lot, where he fired another shot into the air, before running from the scene.
No one was injured.
The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5'10", 140 pounds, wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans, with a gray shirt wrapped around his face.
Four days later, a man with a similar description carrying a rifle entered the Blue Ridge Food Mart in in the 15000 block of Buchanan Trail East in Washington Township, Pa. at around 11:25 p.m.
Police say the man struck the clerk and demanded money before running from the store. Police believe the robber fired the weapon during the robbery. No one was injured.
Police believe the same man robbed both stores based on the description and rifle used in both incidents.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Senior Trooper Plumadore at 301-600-4173.
