A heat advisory is in effect from noon Thursday to 8:00 p.m. for Washington D.C. and the surrounding counties.

Temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees with the heat index expected to be around 105 degrees.

Thunderstorms and rain showers could make their way into the area this afternoon.

More showers are expected on Friday as temperatures drop back into the 80s.
