WOODBRIDGE, Va. -

A four-year-old boy is dead after police say he accidentally shot himself inside of a parked vehicle.

It happened Wednesday afternoon in the 14800 block of Empire Street in Woodbridge.

The child has been identified as Kyrell Kyyon McNeill.

Police say a family member called them to report that the child was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators aren't sure how he got a hold of the handgun and they are still trying to figure out who it belongs to.

No one else was hurt in the shooting.
