HYATTSVILLE, Md. -
Serious safety questions are being raised after an SUV and a CSX freight train collided at a railroad crossing in Hyattsville, Md. Tuesday morning.
Surveillance video captured the SUV as it traveled along Decatur Street, approached the tracks and then disappeared off the screen when the train slammed into the back of it.
The woman behind the wheel of the SUV was seriously hurt, but a Prince George's County fire official said her injuries were non-life threatening.
Some witnesses who spoke with FOX 5 question whether the crossing lights worked properly at the time of the accident, but no one with any investigating authority is suggesting that.
AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesperson John Townsend looked at the railroad crossing and said it appears to be a confusing design because of the topography and suggested a crossing arm would help.
CSX is investigating the accident.
