RABUN COUNTY, Ga. -

The director of a humane society accused of scamming pet owners across the southeast is on indefinite paid administrative leave.

The Boggs Mountain Humane Shelter board of directors took action after FOX 5 I-Team reporter Randy Travis exposed a series of lies and dead animals.

A former Boggs Mountain employee says the director, Peanut Kilby, deceived pet lovers through a program called Lucky Dogs.

Pay at least $100 and Boggs promised the dog or cat you couldn't care for anymore would be placed in a good home with the guarantee it would not be euthanized. Yet we obtained records showing a dozen such animals killed at Boggs Mountain since May.

The Board of Directors decided to halt the Lucky Dog program and close the Boggs Mountain shelter until they can complete their own investigation into what we uncovered.

The GBI has already been called in to look at possible theft by deception and animal cruelty charges.

In a statement, the board says it is "surprised and deeply concerned about the recent allegations."
