Repair tech sentenced for installing spyware on women’s computers, taking naked pictures

SANTA ANA, California -

It's not the kind of thing you have in mind when you send your computer to the shop to be fixed.

Prosecutors in California say an Orange County computer repair tech has been sentenced to a year in jail for installing spyware on six women's computers.

Authorities say the tech -- Trevor Harwell -- used the spyware to record naked images of the women.

Harwell was convicted this past Friday of six felony counts of computer access and fraud.

Harwell installed software that let him use a remote computer to record both live and still images of women undressing. He also set up alerts to let him know when the victim was using her computer.

A judge will rule later whether Harwell has to register as a sex offender.
