Nearly 30 camp students stung by wasps in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. -

Nearly 30 summer camp students and an adult were brought to a hospital after being stung by wasps while hiking at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center.

Officials at the center say a group from the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bridgeport was hiking on a trail Thursday afternoon when they walked over a yellowjackets nest in the ground.

A woman in the group was taken to Stamford Hospital by ambulance after being stung multiple times. Twenty-seven elementary and middle school-age children were also stung and brought to the hospital as a precaution. The woman's condition isn't known. Paramedics say none of the children was seriously injured.

Nature center officials say they sprayed the nest and killed the wasps, but have closed the trail temporarily as a precaution.
