Get Up and Go: Vann House Days

Posted: Updated:
CHATSWORTH, Ga. -

Friday's destination is a place that preserves some of Georgia's rich history. This is a place where you can really get a feel for what Georgia life was like in the early 1800's.

About 85 miles northwest of Atlanta in Chatsworth, Cherokee Chief James Vann built his elegant home on his prosperous 1000 acre plantation.

Chief Vann's home has been preserved, and this Saturday you can tour the mansion to get an idea of what it took to keep it going. You'll see demonstrations of blacksmithing, weaving, quilting, spinning, chair caning, black powder shooting and more.

Vann House Days is Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chief Vann House Historic Site which is about three miles west of Chatsworth.

Admission is $3.50 for children, $6 for adults. There is no parking fee. For more information on Vann House Days, click here!

For decades, Atlantans have woken up to Tom Sullivan on their radios.  But you might not know that he's also somewhat of an expert eBay seller, and he's got quite a story to tell.

They say the third time's a charm, and that's certainly the case for Candice Glover.  A third try on American Idol was just what she needed, and on Thursday night she was crowned the season 12 champ.
