LAKEPORT, Mich. (AP) -

The Coast Guard says there is more cleanup work ahead after diesel fuel from a barge that sank in stormy Lake Huron reached the Michigan shoreline.

A 33-metre long dredging barge sank early Thursday, and the tug pushing it overturned, spilling an unknown amount of diesel fuel.

Coast Guard says crews suspended work late Thursday until daylight on Friday morning.

No injuries were reported.

It wasn't known what caused the Arthur J. to sink near the southern end of the lake, just over a kilometre the Michigan coast.

The Coast Guard released photos Thursday showing a sheen from the spill on shore near Lakeport State Beach, about 100 kilometres northeast of Detroit.
