WASHINGTON -
It was an early evening storm that rolled through Wednesday. And once again the Northwest D.C. neighborhood of Bloomingdale got socked.
Sections of T Street and Rhode Island Avenue filled with rain water.
The Eades family is cleaning out their basement for a second time in a week. There are no fun and games here.
"Sewage, about three inches of water, and we spent about 12 to 16 hours cleaning up, two or three days drying out and finally reset [the] basement, get everything back down there, and within a day or two, we're back at it again," said Ryan Eades.
Just last Tuesday, a torrential downpour caused flooding in this neighborhood. Now a little summer rain has resulted in more flood damage.
"I certainly want them to come out here and figure it out. I don't know if I can live here much longer," said Josh Lipes.
Jeremy Fegley's ground-level condo has been hit hard twice now. The new damage is complicating and delaying repairs that are already underway. And now sewage is backing up.
"It comes up through the toilet. There's a water line in the shower, coming up through the shower," said Fegley.
Teri Janine Quinn, the President of the Bloomingdale Civic Association, is trying to find out what DC Water can do to prevent the flooding and the damage that follows.
"Perhaps there's just too much trash and guck in the system that needs to be cleaned out, but again, I'm not an engineer and these are the kind of answers that we need to get from D.C.," said Quinn.
DC Water, which operates the city's sewage and water system, is building a $2.6 billion water storage system that is supposed to alleviate a lot of the problems in this neighborhood. But that project is about 20 years out and Bloomingdale residents hope help comes much sooner.
