Michigan's new fireworks law is itself under fire.
A state lawmaker wants to give local governments the right to kill the law. Rep. Harold Haugh is sponsoring a bill that would not wipe the bill off the state books, but rather give each local government the power to opt out of it.
He also wants to eliminate all tent outlets, which account for about 90% of all fireworks sales in the state.
The bill was signed into law in December. It's main goal was to generate sales tax revenue and registration fees.
Just days ago, The St. Clair Shores City Council approved a resolution that calls for the repeal of the fireworks law.
