GREAT FALLS, Va. -
Fairfax County Police say a man in his 60s has been killed after a large tree fell on a car in Great Falls, Va. Tuesday.
Witnesses say shortly before 7 p.m., a black four-door Mercedes was traveling in the 9900 block of Georgetown Pike when the tree crashed onto the car, killing the driver of the vehicle.
A crane arrived to lift the tree off of the car.
Police say the tree is estimated to be 100 feet tall and weighing about 40 tons. An arborist and tree workers at the scene say the tree appeared to be rotten.
Authorities say another similar tree about 50 feet away from the fallen tree will also be removed.
Police say the victim's identity will likely be determined after the autopsy.
