Construction on Hamilton Bridge to cause delays on George Washington Bridge, I-95

MYFOXNY.COM -- A three-month construction project on the Alexander Hamilton Bridge begins Saturday, July 14, 2012. The Hamilton bridge is the main thoroughfare for eastbound drivers crossing the George Washington Bridge and getting to I-95 in the Bronx.
That work will likely create delays in New Jersey as well as the Bronx and Manhattan.
The Harlem River crossing is the main route for eastbound drivers crossing the GWB and reaching I-95 in the Bronx.
New Jersey drivers are advised to use the three Staten Island crossings while motorists from the north are advised to use the Tappan Zee Bridge.
Transportation officials say the construction may cause traffic backups for miles into New Jersey.
Fort Lee, N. J., officials are hoping for the best and planning for the worst. The mayor hopes motorists hoping to avoid delays on the GWB approach don't end up crowding local streets in his town.
