Building demolition crew attacked by swarm of bees

Posted: Updated:
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -

Several members of a crew tearing down an old school building in Cape Girardeau are recovering from bee stings.

Crew members on Wednesday encountered honeybees living in the eaves of the old Franklin Elementary School, being demolished to make way for a playground for the new Franklin Elementary that opens in August.

The Southeast Missourian (http://bit.ly/NzYvlS ) reports that several members of the crew were stung. One worker was taken to a hospital for a steroid shot because he said he was allergic to bee stings, but no serious injuries were reported.

Cape Girardeau School District officials called a beekeeper to remove the bees.

The district anticipates that any delay of demolition work would be short.
