Missing veteran identified in hit and run near Arlington Nat'l Cemetery

ARLINGTON, Va. -

Police are identifying the victim in a deadly hit and run in Arlington.

The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning on Route 110 south near the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery.

Police responded to a call for a body on the road and a vehicle nearby.

The vehicle was gone when police arrived.

The deceased is identified as Robert Shepard, a 62-year old veteran who was on the "Missing and Endangered" list in Massachusetts.

Shepard was reported missing by his girlfriend in Lawrence, Massachusetts on June 29th.

It is not known how Shepard arrived in Virginia, but he had traveled to the area before.
