FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -
The National Weather Service is sending a team to Fredericksburg Monday morning to assess the damage from a powerful weekend storm.
Four people were taken to the hospital after the roof was ripped off the Cheer Fusion Dance Studio. A 40-year-old male suffered a compound fracture to a leg, a shoulder injury and concussion. A 47-year-old female suffered a fractured ankle, cuts and contusions. Two children received minor cuts and abrasions.
The building was filled with cheerleaders practicing. The building collapsed when the roof went airborne and slammed into an elderly couple's home next door.
Kenny Powell and Juan Ortiz rushed in to the save the couple, that were trapped inside their home by that roof and other debris.
"We went straight for the house, "Powell says. "We actually had to kick the door in to get them out."
The woman suffered a knee injury, but her husband wasn't hurt.
Assistant Fire Chief Mark Kuechler says the most serious damage was along Lafayette Boulevard to Jefferson Davis Highway.
"Just about every piece of equipment in the county was on the road today," Kuechler says.
Building inspectors will be heading to the area Monday also to survey damage at businesses.
