WASHINGTON -
Nearly a week after deadly summer storms struck the mid-Atlantic area, tens of thousands of residents still remain without power.
At 8 p.m. Friday, Pepco was reporting about 4,592 outages on its website. Most of the outages were in Montgomery County.
Baltimore Gas and Electric was reporting 13,826 outages. Baltimore County had the most outages with 6,260, followed by Baltimore City with 4,688 and Anne Arundel County with 1,007.
In northern Virginia, Dominion Power was reporting 302 outages.
The region's extreme heat is expected to continue into the weekend. Pepco said Thursday that the predicted heat, last week's storm damage and high demand for power are stressing the electrical system's capabilities. The utility is advising customers to conserve electricity.
