A 23-year-old woman was sexually assaulted while walking to her car in a parking garage in Arlington Wednesday.
Police say the woman had just finished shopping at the Ballston Common Mall. She was walking to her car on the fourth level of the Ballston Public Parking Garage around 2:30 p.m. when she was attacked.
"She was approximately two feet away from her car when she was approached from behind by a subject who lifted her skirt up and sexually assaulted her with his hands," says Arlington County Police Department spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. "In this case, the subject was very bold, with the time of day of the incident."
The victim screamed and the suspect ran off.
"We are working with mall security at this time, and adjacent businesses, to see if there is surveillance video footage to assist in the investigation," Sternbeck says.
The suspect is described as a black male, about 6' tall and 150 pounds, between the ages of 17 and 25. He was wearing dark pants, a light shirt, sneakers and a black knit hat.
Sternbeck emphasized the importance of always being alert.
"Please be aware of your surroundings at all times, carry your cell phones with you, and if you do find yourself a victim of any type of crime please report it immediately to police," he says.
