DETROIT (WJBK) -

A tow truck hauls away a crumpled Dodge Avenger after it crashed into a pickup truck at Kelly and Whittier.  The driver of the pickup did not want to talk on camera, but he told Fox 2 he was shocked to see who got out and ran, a boy between the ages of ten and twelve.

"You could tell he was real scared," a woman said.  "It's just sad because, you know, it's kids.  You know, where [are] the parents?"

She saw the suspect running up and down the street being chased by people who witnessed the crash.  She said he was crying and trying to get away, but it didn't work.

The owner of the truck told us witnesses chased the boy back to the accident scene, and
that's when he grabbed him and held him until an ambulance arrived.

"Like who taught you how to drive, I mean steal a car.  Like really at 12?  Where's the recreation center?  Where's you doing something positive?  Like who would teach [an] eleven, twelve-year-old how to steal a car?" the woman said.

That's what everyone was wondering as the boy was taken away to be checked out for injuries.  Police were on the scene, but it's not clear yet what punishment the young suspect might face.

Another woman was quick to defend Detroit's youth.

"That's just one kid.  We're not going to put them all down because you've got a lot of successful [people] right here in Detroit and a lot of successful kids," said Sharon Reynolds.

The truck owner said he doesn't have insurance to cover all the damage, but he is not directing his anger towards the suspect.  Instead, he is praying the boy will learn his lesson and steer clear of crime from now on.
