WASHINGTON -

DC Police are searching for the gunmen who opened fire on a group of people, killing one of them Wednesday night.

Police say the shooting happened in the 5000 block of First Street, northwest.

Investigators say four people were shot. One was killed and one remains in serious condition.

The shooting happened just before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.

The streets were packed with people celebrating the Fourth of July.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier says it appears a group of people standing outside an apartment complex were targeted.

"It happened behind the shopping center. A group of people were standing outside when another group opened fire," Lanier said.

Two teenagers were shot along with two adults.

The Chief says the other two victims have minor graze wounds.
