Philly Has Full Slate Of Independence Day Events

Posted: Updated:

It's the Fourth of July in the birthplace of America and, as always, there are plenty of events planned to celebrate.

"Party on the Parkway" kicks off a noon on the Ben Franklin Parkway. It goes until 7 p.m.

The Wawa Welcome America Independence Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. at 5th and Chestnut streets and winds its way through the historic streets of Old City near Independence Hall.

Descendents of the signers of the Declaration of Independence will be on hand for the annual tapping of the Liberty Bell at 1 p.m. at the Liberty Bell center on Independence Mall.

And the grand finale will be the fireworks over the Ben Franklin Parkway at 10 p.m.

There are going to be some street closures for the Independence Day Parade from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Here is a run down of the closures:

  • Fifth Street from Walnut to Arch;
  • Sixth from Walnut to Arch;
  • Ninth from Walnut to Market;
  • Chestnut from Front to 10th;
  • Market from Front to 11th;
  • And Front from Dock to Arch;

So, if your heading out in Philadelphia later in the morning you're going to want to avoid these street closures and also know that there is no parking on these streets, as well.
