Metro train breaks down near College Park station

Posted: Updated:
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -

Metro says between 200 to 300 passengers climbed out of a malfunctioning Metro train and onto the tracks Tuesday evening near the College Park Metro station.

The transit agency says the train came to rest on the track after losing power just after 6 p.m.

Metro says a passenger hit the emergency button and jumped off the train and onto the tracks to walk to the station. Some other passengers also followed.

Metro brought an empty train from the rear and pushed the broken-down train into the College Park station where the rest of the passengers were unloaded.

All trains were moving through the station without any delays by 8 p.m.

Metro is investigating why the train broke down.

Metro is also reminding passengers to never walk on the tracks.
