With the help of three convenience store customers, a Virginia man was arrested for knocking down and assaulting a convenience store clerk in Culpeper on Monday.
Culpeper Police say Steven Alan Sager was at the Horizon Food Store in the 500 block of Madison Road attempting to purchase a bottle of water. An argument occurred between Sager and the store's owners about the price of the water.
Sager became agitated and yelled to the store clerks that he would prove how strong he was. He proceeded to rip the face off of the store's ATM machine, cutting his hand in the process.
A 41-year-old female clerk went outside to copy the license plate number of the wrecker vehicle Sager was a passenger in. Sager got into an argument with the female clerk and chased the clerk back into the store.
According to police, Sager is accused of throwing a bottle of vitamin water at the female clerk, hitting her in the back. He continued to chase her around the store and allegedly knocked her down, held her to the floor and started hitting her.
Three other store customers intervened and pinned Sager to the floor until police arrived to take him into custody.
Police have charged Sager, 29, with felony abduction and misdemeanor charges of assault and battery, destruction of property, disorderly conduct and being drunk in public.
