HOV lifted, traffic signals out in mid-Atlantic

WASHINGTON -

Authorities in Maryland and Virginia are lifting HOV restrictions and say many intersections are still in the dark days after severe storms hit the area.

The Maryland State Highway Administration suspended HOV restrictions on Interstate 270 on Tuesday. Meanwhile, in Montgomery County, Md., officials say about 140 traffic signals still lacked power.

In Virginia, HOV restrictions have been lifted Interstate 66 inside the Capital Beltway for a second day. The HOV restrictions will remain in place for Interstate 66 of the Beltway an on Interstate 395 and Interstate 95. Meanwhile, more than 80 traffic signals in northern Virginia were without power as of Monday evening.

In the District of Columbia, officers were posted at several intersections that were without power.
