Wealthy Northern Virginia community one of the first without power, but last to come back

GREAT FALLS, Va. -

With mansions spread across secluded, wooded lots, Great Falls in suburban Washington is one of the wealthiest areas in the nation. But because the city is so sparsely populated, it's not a top priority for utility crews trying to get as many people back online.

Resident Patrick Muir says Great Falls "always seems to be the first to go down and the last one to come back up." The patent attorney was raiding water bottles from his powerless office to supply his home.

Most of the city remains without power this evening.

A Safeway supermarket tried to remain open with a limited power supply, handing out free bags of dry ice. But the air inside is stale. Shopping carts with spoiled food, buzzing with flies, sit outside the store.
