DC organizing spoiled food collection

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

Washington residents who have spoiled food because of prolonged power outages can drop it off at six city schools if they want to get rid of it before their normal collection time later in the week.

The D.C. Department of Public Works said Monday that the food collection at school sites will take place Monday and Tuesday. That's in addition to regular trash and recycling collection for those days.

The collection will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. both days.

Officials said they would be taking food at:

· LaSalle - Backus Elementary - 501 Riggs Road, NE

· McKinley Tech - 151 T Street, NE

· Key Elementary - 5001 Dana Place, NW

· Wilson High School - 3950 Chesapeake Street, NW

· Ferebee-Hope Elementary - 3999 8th Street, SE

· Garfield Elementary - 2435 Alabama Avenue, SE
