Michael Jackson's tiger 'Thriller' dies in California wildlife preserve

ACTON, Calif. -

A Bengal tiger once owned by late pop icon Michael Jackson died in a California wildlife park earlier this month, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The tiger, aptly named "Thriller," died from lung cancer June 11 at actress Tippi Hedren's Shambala Preserve in Acton, Calif., roughly 50 miles (80km) north of Los Angeles.

Jackson's vet had asked Hedren to look after Thriller and her brother Sabu after the late pop star left his Neverland Ranch in 2006.

"She was about as tough a tiger as we have known here. She ruled over Sabu," Hedren said Wednesday. "She was the queen. We were fascinated by her dominance."

Fans around the world commemorated the third anniversary of the King of Pop's death on Monday.
