A 19-year-old from North Texas who is carrying a large, 12 foot, wooden cross to Washington, D.C., will be allowed to pray and march across from the White House.
Republican Rep. Kay Granger helped Junior Garcia and his friends from Oasis Church International get the necessary permits to display the cross and walk in Lafayette Park, across from the White House.
The District of Columbia mayor originally denied the request because of security reasons -- nothing higher than the fence is supposed to be placed inside the park.
The group left Saginaw, Texas, last month and is due to arrive in Washington on July 13. According to the church's Facebook page, the group recently left Sparta, Tenn.
The journey is meant to draw the attention of the US back to Christ, Garcia told FOX station KDFW last month.
Garcia's trip and the group's T-shirt sales will also raise money for an Assembly of God mission that will purchase a car for a missionary in Mexico.
