WASHINGTON -
Four D.C. Police officers and five other people have been indicted for charges connected to a violent assault outside a D.C. nightclub.
Walter Blair was beaten so badly he lost vision in one eye. The incident happened last June outside the Lotus Lounge along K Street in Northwest.
D.C. Police say investigating detectives were able to use surveillance video outside the club to identify other officers from the First District who were involved in the incident.
"I am proud of our First District detectives for demonstrating the integrity that we expect from all of our law enforcement officers. There are no exceptions for those who violate the law," D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.
There is also a civil lawsuit that has been filed by Ronald Karp, Blair's attorney. He believes the officers involved in the assault were working at the Lotus Lounge as bouncers. According to D.C. rules, D.C. Police officers are not allowed to moonlight at establishments that serve alcohol.
