WIMBLEDON, England -

The Women's Tennis Association plans to begin using technology, rule changes and education to prevent players from grunting, USA Today reported.

The plan would include the development of a handheld device for officials to objectively measure on-court noise. In addition, a new rule would set acceptable noise levels, and tennis academies and programs would work to prevent future players from grunting.

It received-unanimous approval earlier this month at Roland Garros in Paris by representatives of the four majors, the International Tennis Federation and the WTA players' council.

Current players will not be affected by the strategy.

According to USA Today, critics have complained the policy is sexist, since male tennis players also grunt, but no measures have been taken to discourage it.

There is currently no timetable for when the plan will be put in place.
