Armed man surrenders in Falls Church standoff

FALLS CHURCH, Va. -

Police say an armed man who barricaded himself in a house in Falls Church has surrendered after being tased by police, ending the 28-hour standoff.

Police responded to the 600 block of Hillwood Avenue on Monday afternoon for a report of a domestic situation. Police say when they arrived, they encountered the man with a handgun. Two other family members were in the home at the time. Police say there were reports of gasoline being poured on the man and throughout the house.

The family members were extricated from the home by the Falls Church Police Department and then the man barricaded himself in the home.

Police have confirmed a shot was fired at the scene by the suspect as police were getting the family members out of the house during the standoff.

The suspect has been treated and transported to Fairfax Hospital.

Felony charges are pending against the suspect.

Police have not released the name of the man.

The standoff brought a large police presence to the scene with a SWAT team and police from Falls Church, Alexandria, Arlington County and Fairfax County all in the area.
