Movie Shoot Parking Ban Doesn't Thrill Neighbors

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A new film based on the life of a Philadelphia-born director is causing some concerns for people in West Oak Lane.

The movie titled "1982" is based on the life of director Tommy Oliver and his experience growing up at the start of the crack cocaine epidemic.

Andrews Avenue will be the main backdrop for the film.

The cameras start rolling tomorrow and shooting is expected to last four weeks.

That means the street will be shut down and residents won't be allowed to park there.

"It's OK, it's OK," homeowner Mac Patterson said. "But when they asked about closing down the block for a month, I can't deal with that. I work hard every day. When I come home, there are no spaces as it is."

Oliver says he wanted to shoot the film in the same house and neighborhood where he grew up. He says he understands the headache for some but says it will also bring excitement to the neighborhood.

Oliver has promised a neighborhood block party when shooting wraps as a thank you.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell has more details in this video report.
