Bucks County Sports Equipment Goes Up in Flames

Posted: Updated:
WARMINSTER, Pa. -

Hundreds of youth league baseball and soccer players were shocked to learn a shed that housed thousands of dollars worth of their equipment was set alight, and burned to the ground Saturday night.

It happened at Monro Park in Warminster, Bucks County.

Officials with the Warminster Baseball Association and soccer club say at least $7,000 worth of items were lost in the blaze including some baseball gear, soccer nets, and paint to mark the fields.

A brand new lawnmower used to keep the fields trimmed was also destroyed in the fire.

"We have to pay more money to replace everything that they've already purchased," said Brandon Berndlmaier, one of 700 Warminster young people that play on various teams within the Association.

His dad Eric Berndlmaier is one of the board members and says parents will have to foot the bill to replace the equipment.

"The leagues collect a fee from each player to play but you don't collect extra money to cover something like this," he said.

They are hoping the public can help with donations.  In the meantime Warminster fire officials are investigating for a cause, and are not calling it suspicious at this time.

Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
