WASHINGTON -
Mary Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne, married her longtime partner Heather Poe in Washington, D.C., on Friday, FOX News Channel reported.
In a statement, the former VP and his wife said they are "delighted" that their daughter was able to be married.
The newly-married couple already has two children together. Cheney, 43, gave birth to a son in 2007, and a daughter in 2009.
"Mary and Heather have been in a committed relationship for many years, and we are delighted that they were able to take advantage of the opportunity to have that relationship recognized," the Cheneys said in the statement provided to The Daily Caller.
"Mary and Heather and their children are very important and much loved members of our family and we wish them every happiness," the statement added.
Mary Cheney is credited with encouraging her father to publicly support same-sex marriage in 2009.
Cheney spokesperson Kara Ahern confirmed the union but told FOX that the Cheney family will not release any additional details about the wedding.
